Topic: Bar discipline - Miss.R.Disc. 6(a) - Disbarment

Summary of the Facts: The Mississippi Bar filed a formal complaint against Leland H. Jones, III, asserting that Jones was convicted, upon a plea of guilty, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi of the offense of concealment of assets from a bankruptcy trustee, a felony within the meaning of the term as used in Rule 6 of the Rules of Discipline of the Mississippi Bar.

Summary of Opinion Analysis: The Bar submitted a certified copy of the judgment of the District Court evidencing Jones’s conviction. Under the provisions of Rule 6(a) of the Rules of Discipline for the Mississippi State Bar, a certified copy of the judgment of conviction of a felony, subject to exceptions not applicable here, is conclusive evidence of the conviction and requires his disbarment and the striking of his name from the rolls of those licensed to practice law in the State of Mississippi.
