Topic: Post-conviction relief - Disproportionate sentence

Summary of the Facts: Dedric Minor pled guilty to aggravated assault and received a sentence of twenty years. He filed a motion for post-conviction relief which was denied. He appeals.

Summary of Opinion Analysis: Minor argues that his sentence of twenty years was disproportionate to the crime, especially in light of his status as a first-time offender and a father of two children. Sentencing is within the complete discretion of the trial court and not subject to appellate review if it is within the limits prescribed by statute. Thus, there was no error in the trial court’s denial of post-conviction relief.
